Golden bamboo Find a Weed

(Phyllostachys Aurea) Growing to a height of 6m, with long slender canes and dense graceful foliage, this bamboo has a spreading habit and sends its rhizomes (roots) underground, often sprouting some distance from the original plant. In the shade, its foliage is green but it develops a golden hue in full sun. Once established, it is extremely difficult to control. Like most bamboos, it comes originally from Asia but has adapted well in other regions with similar climatic conditions. Still sold in Australia as an ornamental plant, it is not only problematic in cultivated gardens but has also spread into bushland, mainly through the dumping of garden waste – even small sections of stem are capable of taking root.
