Bridal Creeper Find a Weed

(Asparagus Asparagoides) A relative newcomer to the Australian weed list, it was first reported as problematic in 2003. It has been available as an ornamental for many years. A climber of scrambler with perennial roots, it may achieve a height of 3 metres or more and its wiry stems may grow as long as 6m and is capable of smothering plants in its path, native or exotic. Its common name is derived from the density of its long trailing stems and foliage. It produces white and green flowers in winter and spring; these are followed by red berries. Spread is mainly by bird dispersed seeds, rhizomes and garden waste dumping.
