Originally from the Mediterranean, Bindii has become one of the most common weeds in Australia, and indeed the world. A small annual nuisance plant from the fern family, Bindii plants produce sharp, sticky fruits which can pierce the skin quite painfully. As a result, they can be tricky to remove.
As a result of their painful nature and the health risk they pose to livestock and animals, it is important to remove Bindii plants quickly, avoiding possible future painful encounters in the garden later on. There are two main ways to do this. The first, and perhaps the easiest, is to buy a dedicated Bindii killer, quite widespread throughout hardware stores in Australia. However, for those who prefer not to use chemical products manual removal is possible, with a trowel or similar small tool. Although it is advisable to do this in the winter, when the plants start to appear, before they get too prickly and therefore painful to handle.
